PLUS AND UEM LESTRA SIGNED MOU TO EXPLORE LARGE-SCALE SOLAR PROJECT

Ayer Keroh selected as the first site for this joint sustainability initiative

PETALING JAYA, 31 July 2025 – PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) and UEM Lestra Berhad (UEM Lestra), both subsidiaries of UEM Group Berhad (UEM Group), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly explore a large-scale solar (LSS) project, beginning with a solar farm planned on PLUS’ land in Ayer Keroh, Melaka.

This collaboration builds upon a proposed solar farm development on the 200-acres land, Phase 2 of PLUS’ Ayer Keroh Land Conceptual Master Plan. The overall masterplan covers 338-acres land of mixed development which also includes mobility retail developments and residential under Phase 1 and 3.

The MoU, which is in line with Malaysia’s national aspiration of achieving Net Zero by 2050, marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration between the two companies and is part of a broader vision to unlock the potential of PLUS’ land assets for new developments, including green infrastructure and sustainable initiatives.

The signing ceremony took place recently at Persada PLUS with the document signed by Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaffar, Managing Director of PLUS and Harman Faiz Habib Muhamad, Chief Executive Officer of UEM Lestra.

Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaffar stated, “The partnership with UEM Lestra reflects PLUS’ commitment to playing a proactive role in sustainable development by leveraging on our infrastructure and strategic land assets for the harnessing of renewable energy and supporting the nation’s net zero target.”

“This initiative also supports PLUS’ long-term strategy towards a safe, sustainable and smart highway, further reinforcing our role as a nation-building partner, driving innovation and environmental stewardship,” she added.

The MoU also encompasses joint efforts to identify other suitable sites for the implementation of sustainable projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and supporting Malaysia’s sustainability agenda.

According to Harman Faiz Habib Muhamad, “This collaboration marks another important milestone in UEM Lestra’s strategic expansion into Malaysia’s renewable energy sector. By leveraging our technical expertise and project management capabilities, we are committed to delivering a sustainable and impactful large scale solar farm on PLUS’ land in Ayer Keroh and other similar initiatives.”

UEM Lestra, recognised for its proven renewable energy portfolio and technical capabilities, will lead in the planning and feasibility assessment of the LSS project.
