CENERGI CELEBRATE DOUBLE RECOGNITION AT ASEAN ENERGY AWARDS 2025
Kuala Lumpur, 17 October 2025 – In a remarkable achievement that underscores Malaysia’s advancing renewable energy sector, Cenergi SEA Berhad, a subsidiary of UEM Lestra Berhad, has secured two prestigious awards under the Renewable Energy – On Grid (National Grid) category at the ASEAN Energy Awards 2025.
The awards were presented by YAB Dato’ Amar Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation of Malaysia, during a ceremony held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and the 25th ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF-25).
Cenergi West 1.56MW Biogas Plant in Pulau Carey, Selangor, was named the winner for its high-performing palm oil mill effluent biogas power plant and its impactful corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes. The project was recognised for its sustainable waste-to-energy generation from palm oil wastes, complemented by CSR initiatives that benefit the local community.
Meanwhile, the company’s NEDA Power Solar Farm in Sungai Tiang, Kedah, earned the first runner-up position as a pioneering merchant solar generator. As Malaysia’s first merchant solar agrivoltaics project, this farm marks an early step in energy market liberalisation by enabling the direct sale of clean electricity to the national grid at market rates.
According to Ir. Kwok Yew Hoe, Group Chief Executive Officer of Cenergi, these awards reaffirm the company’s position as Malaysia’s largest grid-connected palm oil mill effluent (POME) biogas developer, supported by a diverse portfolio that includes biomethane, solar, small hydro and energy efficiency initiatives across the country.
“The regional recognition not only validates our innovative approach but also underscores our pivotal role in shaping Malaysia’s sustainable energy future. As ASEAN advances towards a cleaner, more integrated energy landscape, Cenergi remains committed to exploring innovative ways to transform waste into clean energy while actively reducing carbon emissions,” he said.
Cenergi continues to lead in the energy transition, with initiatives extending beyond renewable energy development. In 2024, the company issued Malaysia’s first Verra-certified Carbon Credits derived from POME biogas plants, which were successfully auctioned on Bursa Carbon Exchange earlier this year. Additionally, Cenergi is exploring new avenues to support decarbonisation efforts within the aviation sector, including potential Carbon Credit issuances aligned with CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation) guidelines.
